Mold powder applies to metallurgy industry broadly and it is a kind of indispensable auxiliary materials in modern continuous casting process. Melting properties of mold powder in the continuous casting process directly affect the slab quality. Therefore the development of a fast, accurate melting point and rate measuring instrument of mold powder has a very important guiding significance for practical industrial production. Currently, the instrument in the market mostly uses IPC and data acquisition card to set up a test platform. With large shape, complex hardware structure, difficult debugging, and costliness, it can not fully meet the requirements of continuous casting process. Aiming at these problems, an embedded-based melting point and rate measuring instrument of mold powder based on ARM is designed with cost and application taken into consideration.As the kernel control chip, STM32 with high performance, low cost, low power dissipation is used and the peripheral hardware circuits are designed. Temperature signal acquisition is by a thermocouple. According to pre-set temperature curve, the heating power of thyristor module is controlled in order to achieve the desired temperature. The system with CCD camera carrying out real-time acquisition on the state of mold powder, realizes the real-time monitoring and operating.Based on the hardware and software design of the instrument, the temperature control and image processing based on embedded is focused on. By the method of simulation-comparing between model-free adaptive algorithm and PID algorithm, model-free adaptive algorithm is chosen, which improves the overshoot phenomenon in traditional PID control method and realizes the precise control.To achieve accurate melting point and rate measurement and real-time display, gray image edge detection, filtering, edge processing are used on the image obtained by the CCD camera. Compared with the traditional measurement system, the embedded-based melting point and rate measuring instrument of mold powder is compact, reliable, high precision control, easy to operate, and with promising market prospects.
