Objective To study the effects of antineoplastic drugs on granulocytes and monocytes apoptosis and expression of FAS and BCL-2 gene in nurses of occupational exposure to antineoplastic drugs, and the effects of antineoplastic drugs on immunoglobulin in nurses of occupational exposure to antineoplastic drugs. and to know the conditions of wearing personal protective equipment and of the working environment, and to understand the health effects of occupational exposure to antineoplastic drugs and so on. In order to promote action to spread the use of the appropriate personal protective equipment and the appropriate working environment. Methods In the study, all investigated subjects especially the nurses of occupational exposure to antineoplastic drugs were from tumer hospital in Shanxi Province. All subjects were investigated by questionnaire during visiting to them. The questionnaire including condition of personel protective countermeasures against antineoplastic drugs and the working environment, and which antineoplastic drugs have often been administered during work.and some adverse effects of occupational exposure to antineoplastic drugs such as lose hair and menstrual disorder and so on. The thirty nurses of occupational exposure to antineoplastic drugs were selected as exposed group , in this group every nurse has been exposed to antineoplastic drugs for more than five years and each day every nurse administer over five different antineoplastic drugs or more than five different patients treated with antineoplastic drugs. Every subject in exposed group was woman , average age is 33 years. Average time of occupational exposure to antineoplastic drugs is 14 years. All subjects in exposed group have been excepted other poison exposure. Thirty healthy nurses , average age is 31 years, who were never exposed to antineoplastic drugs were selected as controls. The exposed and control groups of venous blood were especially collected to test apoptosis by using flow cytometry techniques ,and to test the level of serum immunoglobulin and white blood cells and lymphocyte. The results was analyzed between the exposed and control groups .Results (1) All subjects were investigated by questionnaire during visiting to them: The level of knowledge of the nurses concerning antineoplastics was not satisfactory. the nurses were not at all aware of the potential adverse effects of occupational exposure to antineoplastic drugs and did not know whether the exposure might affect their future health . Most nurses didn't take appropriate protective countermeasures against antineoplastic drugs. the nurses stated a desire for special education and training for safe handling of antineoplastic drugs. This study also revealed the necessity for improvement of the working environment and the availability of appropriate protective equipment.(2)By using flow cytometry techniques , granulocytes and monocytes apoptosis and expression of FAS and BCL-2 gene were assessed: granulocytes and monocytes apoptosis in nurses of occupational exposure to antineoplastic drugs significantly...
