[object]1.To understand the status of physical development and the status of overweight andobesity of Grade 1 students in Yuhua District of Changsha City. 2. To find out theinfluencing factors of overweight and obesity, so as to provide scientific basis onwhich preventive measures to promote the health status of students in Yuhua Districtwill be made and intervention study will be carried out.[Methods]Cluster sampling was adopted, and two middle schools were randomly chosen fromtotally 13 middle schools in Yuhua District according to the random digits table, then allthe Grade 1 students in the selected schools were chosen as our subjects, with the totalnumber amounting to 754. Questionnaires and physical examination were combined inthis study. Questionnaires are made up of self-designed questionnaire, Zung-designedself-rating anxiety scale (SAS) and Zung-designed self-rating depression scale (SDS).[Results]1. The comparison of common status between boys and girls: the average height ofboys at the age of 14 is significantly higher than that of girls at the same age (t=3.343,P=0.001).2. The rates of overweight and obesity: the rates of overweight and obesity for boysare respectively 11.0% and 4.5%, while those of girls are respectively 9.1% and 3.6%.3. The influencing factors:3.1 Results by single factor analysis showed that, the fact that his father is obese andbeing an only child are both risk factors of overweight, with the values of ORrespectively being 2.50 (P=0.001) and 2.10 (P=-0.010); and that preference to exercises, dietary bias or choosy in food as well are both protection factors of overweight, with thevalues of OR being respectively 0.483 (P=0.036) and 0.504 (P=0.018).3.2 Results from non-conditional logistic regression showed that, the obesity statusof father, higher frequency of browsing on the net, and being an only child are all riskfactors of overweight, with their OR values of 2.490 (P=0.003), 1.922 (P=0.042), 2.132 (P=0.011), respectively. Moreover, preference to exercises and dietary bias or choosy infood are protection factors of overweight, with their OR value of 0.426 (P=0.022), 0.477(P=0.014).[Conclusions]1. The average height of boys at the age of 14 is significantly higher than that of girlsat the same age2. The rates of overweight and obesity of boys in Yuhua District are respectively 11.0%and 4.5%, and those of girls are 9.1% and 3.6%, respectively.3. For our subjects, being an only child, the weight status of father, and higherfrequency of browsing on the net are all risk factors of overweight, while preference toexercises and dietary bias or choosy in food may decrease the incidence of overweight.
