ObjectivesOverweight and obesity are risk factors for many diseases, and the number of overweight and obesity people in the population is increasing. The aim of this study was to understand the prevalence of overweight, systemic obesity and central obesity among adults in rural areas of Luohe,Henan Province, and their influencing factors,to provide scientific basis for weight control and reducing the burden of chronic diseases for adults in this area.MethodsThe study involved 8376 participants coming from Rural Luohe of Henan Province including 2819 men and 5557 women. The age of participants ranged from 18 to 79 years old.The well-trained staffs used structured questionnaire to query participants through face-to-face interviews.Body mass index was classified as underweight(BMI<18.5kg/m2),normal weight(24kg/m2>BMI?18.5kg/m2),overweight(28kg/m2>BMI?24kg/m2)and general obesity(BMI?28kg/m2).The central obesity was defined as?80cm in women and?90cm in men according to waist circumference(WC).Logistic regression model was used to analyze the association between factors and overweight, general obesity and central obesity, expressed as Odds Ratio(OR)and Confidence Interval(CI).Results1.The average value of BMI among men was(24.91±3.61 kg/m2),and the BMI was highest of 30?39 years(26.05±3.76 kg/m2).The average value of BMI among women was(25.25±3.49 kg/m2),and the BMI was highest of 50?59 years(25.71±3.27 kg/m2).The average value of WC among men was(87.27±10.55cm).The average value of WC among women was(85.74±10.07cm).The WC was highest of 50?59 years both men and women.2.The overall crude prevalence of overweight, general obesity and central obesity was 42.66%,19.38%and 61.64%.According to the data of 2010 census, the standardized prevalence of overweight, general obesity and central obesity were 36.59%,18.26%and 50.68%.Furthermore,the crude prevalence of the three conditions of men was 42.28%,18.09%and 41.18%,and the standardized prevalence were 37.57%,24.96%and 41.62%.The crude prevalence of women was 42.85%,20.03%and 72.02%,and the standardized prevalence was 36.69%,14.79%and 55.19%.3.Risk Factors for overweight, general obesity and central obesity:Age,monthly income above 500 yuan, current alcohol consumption, high fat diet may increase the risk of overweight, smoking may reduce the likelihood of being overweight.A 50 to 59 year-old,high-fat Diet may increase the likelihood of systemic obesity, and current smoking and heavy physical activity may decrease the likelihood of systemic obesity.Age,women, monthly income of 500?1000 yuan, current ay reduce the likelihood of developing central obesity.4.The proportion of central obesity was 98.66%in the obese group, and the proportion of central obesity was 96.46%in the female group.Among the male population, the central obesity group accounted for the largest proportion,99.65%..Using BMI as the independent variable and WC as the dependent variable, the total population, men and women ?(95%CI)were 2.41(2.38-2.44),2.44(2.39-2.50)and 2.37(2.33-2.41)after adjustment for all covariates.Conclusion1.The average value of BMI,WC and the prevalence of overweight, general obesity and central obesity were high. And women were more likely to suffer central obesity than men.2.We should focus on 50-59 years old, high monthly income,high-fat diet, drinking and eating more vegetables and fruits to take relevant interventions,so as to achieve the purpose of scientific prevention and control of weight.3.The proportion of central obesity in different BMI groups increased with the increase of BMI,and the WC value of population also increased with the increase of BMI.The comprehensive use of WC and BMI can better judge the obesity status of the population.
