Alternanthera philoxeroides (Mart.) Griseb., a perennial herb plant ofAmaranthaceae, is a folk herbal medicine which has been used to thetreatment of some symptoms, such as cold, headache, virosis, etc. Recentpharmacological research shows that this herb medicine has noticeableantiviral activity and some extent antalgic and immunoloregulativefunction. Based on pharmacological and clinical research, thephytochemistry study of Alternanthera philoxeroides and relevant qualityresearch were conducted.21 constituents were isolated from EtOAc extract of Alternantheraphiloxeroides by all kinds of chromatography methods as silica gelvolumn chromatography, gel permeation chromatography and preparativeHPLC chromatography, etc. 16 compounds, whose structure has beeneluminated by IR, NMR and MS techniques, were identified as follows:ursolic acid(Ⅰ), 2-hydroxy-methylanthraquinone(Ⅱ), rubiadin 1-methylether(Ⅲ), rubiadin(Ⅳ), indole-3-carboxaldehyde(Ⅴ), p-coumaricacid(Ⅵ, indole-3-carboxylic acid(Ⅶ), azelaic acid(Ⅷ), N-trans-feruloyltyramine(Ⅸ), blumenol A(Ⅹ), quercetin(Ⅺ), luteolin(Ⅻ),altemanthin(ⅩⅢ),chrysoeriol-6-C-β-boivinopyranosyl-7-O-β-glucopyranoside(ⅩⅣ),stigmasta-5,22-dien-3β-ol(ⅩⅤ) andα-spinasterol(ⅩⅥ). Among them, compoundsⅠ,Ⅱ,Ⅲ,Ⅳ,Ⅴ,Ⅵ,Ⅶ,Ⅷ,Ⅸ,Ⅹ,Ⅺ,ⅫandⅩⅣwerediscovered for the first time from Alternanthera.Apart from chemical constituent research, the preliminary anti-HBV activity screening test of the compounds isolated were conducted basedon ELISA (Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) detection. The resultsindicated that compoundⅨ,ⅩⅢandⅩⅣcan effectively inhibitHBeAg (Hepatitis B envelop antigen) excreted by HepG2 2.2.15 cell.Fingerprint Spectrum is a newly developed technique to evaluate thequality of herb medicine. In order to fred out the commonness anddifference between terraneous and aquicolous ecotype of Alternantheraphiloxeroides, we collected 54 batches materials from 6 provinces ofChina, studied its HPLC chromatography characteristic, and fmallyestablished the analysis methods of Fingerprint Spectrum of both type. 17peaks were assigned common peaks in the spectrum of terraneousecotype, 4 of which assigned as fingerprint peaks, while 12 commonpeaks of aquicolous ecotype with 4 fingerprint peaks of them. Besidesdomestic materials, 6 overseas sample, 2 from United States and 4 fromArgentine, also has been studied.
