After several large-scale expansion, the temple turned into a largest and most affected temple in Hohhot.Because Hohhot is the political, economic and cultural center in Inner Mongolia region, the XiLiTu Temple played a very important role about Tibetan Buddhism in Inner Mongolia region. So the depth study of XiLiTu Temple has great significance. For centuries, it had made outstanding contributions in carrying forward the Tibetan Buddhism, the promotion of cultural exchanges between the Mongolian, Manchus, Tibetan and the Han, especially between the Mongolian and Tibetan and maintenance of stability in border areas to achieve reunification of the motherland.
