In 2001, the Ministry of Education issued a "Basic Education Curriculum Reform (trial implementation) " and decided to promote it. Under the guidance of the concept in the new curriculum reform, the subject of history in high schools changed a lot, especially in the textbook. One important change of this curriculum reform is that the curriculum objective is identified as "knowledge and capacity", "process and methodology", "emotional attitude and values" three dimensions. We should also pay attention to textbooks compilation to help students achieve the objective of these three dimensions. In July, 2001, the PRC Ministry of Education has drawn up "Standards of History Curriculum in Full-time Compulsory Education (experimental version)." History textbook of junior high schools must be in strict accordance with the requirements of the curriculum standards, which can help students complete their history courses and achieve the standards. After several years' curriculum reform experiments in junior high schools, the compilation of history textbook also gradually becomes mature and complete. Several versions of history textbooks for compulsory education in junior high schools have passed the examination of the Ministry of National Education."Process and methodology" is a new objective in the new curriculum reform, which aims at helping students to attach importance to the process of learning history, grasping some methods in solving problems in the learning process, and cultivating students' various capacities to meet the future needs of social development. However, there are still some difficulties in realizing "process and methodology" objective, because it's the first time for it to be proposed. Textbook is an important learning and teaching tool for students and teachers, so studying the reflection of "process and methodology" in textbook is significant for achievement of the objective. This paper tries to analyze the history textbooks of high schools in China, Japan and South Korea, sum up their features on "process and methodology" and concludes their respective strengths and deficiencies. Then the author gives some suggestions in the future compilation and use of textbooks in order to achieve the objective of "process and methodology" better.
