It could be greatly improve by using the factory3D design system for enterprises on advancing the design quality, reducing the cost of installation and reconstruction and saving the project time and the cost of the project. Meanwhile, it also can reduce a lot of simple tedious work essentially therefore the designer can concentrate on those creative high-level thinking activities, and increase the competitiveness of enterprises. But the legitimate factory3D design software is so expensive that generally cost several decades to millions of yuan every year. For this reason, developing a new chemical factory3D design software based on other3D CAD software become the most effective way on saving enterprise spending, reducing design cost and improving the design level.With the SolidWorks secondary development technique, this article develops a professional design system to meet the design requirements of chemical enterprise according to the characteristics of the chemical industry. The main work content as follows:(1) Parameterized modeling module. With the SolidWorks parameterized modeling technology, this article develops the parameterized modeling module of structures and equipments to realize the parametric design.(2) Layout module. This article develops the layout module which is appropriate for chemical plant3D design to place the parameterized modeled equipments and structures into the correct position. And the system also adds the position editing functions to convenient the later model modification.(3) Pipe modeling module. First, the article researches on making piping components by the use of SolidWorks series parts design method. Then it develops the pipe modeling module based on SolidWorks Routing to make the system more in line with the requirements of the chemical plant3D design.(4) Interference analysis and pipeline spacing inspection module. According to the shortcomings of model detection on SolidWorks, the article develops the interference reports generation function and pipeline spacing inspection function by the use of which can detect the chemical factory3D model effectively.(5) Material statistics and BOM list output module. The system realize the material statistics and inquires function by visiting and arranging SolidWorks model file custom property; It also realize the statistics and output function of the classified material list by classifying the components making use of their SolidWorks custom property.(6) Database maintenance and management, the article develops the database maintenance and management function based on the VB file operations technology. The function contains database backup, database recovery and database modification which can increase the reliability of the database, lowering the difficulty of database modification and improving the system function.The3D design system developed by this article integrated seamlessly with SolidWorks is user-friendly, and It can reduce the workload of designers greatly, shorten the design cycle, improved the design quality by using this system. So this system is proved significant is practical production.
