Introduced by western countries’s cholars in1970s, thecommunicative teaching method is expected to cultivate learners’ socialcommunicative ability. This teaching method has been increasinglyapplied and promoted in the field of language teaching in recent years.More and more teachers especially foreign language teachers havefocused their attention on the theory of “information gap”, which is one offundamental principles of the communicative teaching method. In recentyears, Chinese scholars have done some in-depth research in thetheoretical analysis and practical application of the theory of informationgap in the field of English teaching, and have achieved good result.Although some researchers have done certain theoretical analysis of thetheory of information gap in the field of teaching Chinese as a foreignlanguage, the theory has been seldom applied into the field of practicalteaching.Based on theoretical analysis of information gap and the practicalexperience in English teaching made by domestic and foreign scholars, the dissertation is intended to apply the theory of information gap into theclassroom of teaching Chinese as a foreign language, and is divided intofour sections to analyze the related issues. The first chapter presents thenecessity of analyzing the theory of information gap and states creativepoints on the basis of summarizing its research development in terms oftheory and application. The second chapter begins with an introduction ofthe basic concept and principles of the theory of information gap. Afterthat, this section will turn to introduce its theoretical basis in the field oflinguistics and psychology and its application in the current moment. Thenext chapter will analyze how to create and apply the theory ofinformation gap in the listening-speaking class of mid-level course.
