This paper narrows down the study on the application ofcooperative learning to English Writing in Senior High School and tries toseek the answers to the following questions:1) Is it practical to apply cooperative learning to English writing inSenior High School?2) Will the students in the experimental class ease their anxiety andbe more active in English writing after this experiment?3) If cooperative learning is applied to English writing in Senior HighSchool, can students in the experimental class benefit from it?The paper reviews the constructive theory, the cognitivedevelopment theory and the motivation theory as the foundation andtheoretical considerations for the efficiency of applying cooperativelearning to English writing in Chenghua Senior High School. It alsoreviews the research on cooperative learning at home and abroad inorder to discuss the five basic elements of cooperative learning:grouping; positive interdependence; individual accountability;interaction and group processing. The paper also discusses the value ofthe application of cooperative learning to English writing in Senior HighSchool.Three questionnaires of “The Present Situation of English Writing inChenghua Senior High School”;“The Present Situation of CooperativeLearning in Chenghua Senior High School” and “Students’ Feelings ofEnglish Writing after the Experiment” are specially designed for thestudents of Senior2in Chenghua Senior High School. The results of thepre-test and the post-test are analyzed in the paper. The findings are asfollows: it is practical to apply cooperative learning to English writing; students’ writing anxiety can be eased during cooperative learning andtheir writing skills and levels can be developed.In this paper, some strategies to apply cooperative learning inEnglish writing are suggested, such as setting up learning groups;developing their awareness of cooperation; organizing valuable writingcontents; leading students to discuss efficiently and evaluating studentsefficiently.
