Float valve tray is a high efficient gas-liquid mass transfer equipment. It has been attracted much attention since1950s developed by the United States. The main mechanical character of float valve tray is creativity, flexibility, stability and simple structure. Till now, it has been applied in petrochemical plant largely.F1type float valve is commonly used in our plant, but its efficiency is lower, and is easy to rotate, fall off during operation. Considering increase the efficiency, reduce energy cost and boost separation efficiency, new type of float valve such as ADV float valve gradually instead of tradition F1and now have been wildly used in new plant and revamping plant and have good performance.Now these new type float valve face new challenge. Research and survey result from plant owner show these new type float valve actually have higher efficiency than traditional valve, but if the component viscosity is higher or it is easy to be coked. The float valve will stick to tray to reduce the separation efficiency. Another drawback of new type float valve is the tooling cost is higher than normal. So consider above issues we have to research and develop a upgraded type of float valve-combinative valveCombinative float valve is a combination of two type valve function includes floating valve and fixed valve, it can adapt to a wider range of operating flexibility, and can deal with some coking, higher viscosity conditions in operation.This article refers to the domestic and foreign standard specification, considering the chemical process and machining process, the mechanical structure design of combinative float valve, and structural model is established by3D.In order to study the mechanical properties of the composite float valve,3D software and finite element analysis of stress analysis were used to test the combinative float valveā€™s structure, stress distribution, and weak point. Based on finite element analysis and meshing method, the process of calculation is simplified, and cut operation time down. The analysis results show that the property of combinative valve can meet requirement of engineering application.Test with the ADV float Valve (Advanced Dispersion Valve high differential float Valve) which has been developed and largely used in plant, the result show the combination of float valve is more widely applicable, turndown ratio is in large range and have better capacity in conditions that liquid flow rate is not too little.
