With the power of the shearer is larger and larger, the power of the ranging arm is alsoincreasing rapidly, and calorific value produced in the ranging arm rises sharply. However, theworking environment of the shearer is complicated and fickle, the flow of cooling water isrestricted because of coal quality, so heat dissipations of the ranging arm gear transmissionsystem are limited and the working reliability of shearer lessens accordingly. Therefore,research and analysis of the ranging arm thermal equilibrium is very important.The paper firstly introduced the structure of gear-reducer system of the ranging arm, thenlubrication and cooling systems are also clearly stated. Application of convection heatexchange theory when fluid flow through flat and pipe separately, calculates the convectiveheat transfer coefficient of the internal and external wall enclosure and the convective heattransfer coefficient of the shaft in the different working conditions. The sources ofheat-producing and methods of heat-dissipation of the ranging arm are analyzed. According tothe law of conservation of energy, gets the iteration formulas which calculate the temperatureof thermal equilibrium of the ranging arm, the temperature rising curve of the ranging arm isabstained, get and analyze ranging arm’ temperature rise D-value curve which is calculated asthe difference between temperature rising curve of the ranging arm working under differentenvironmental temperature and difference slant angle. The paper comparatively analyzes theranging arm temperature rising curves between containing water-cooling and withoutwater-cooling.Based on three-dimensional software(Solid Edge) and finite element analysingsoftware(ANSYS), finite element model of the ranging arm is established and finite elementnetwork model of the ranging arm is obtained through mesh generation. Through loading theforce and boundary conditions for finite element model, calculations for solution are executed,then color contour image distributions in steady temperature field are obtained.In the end, the paper puts forward two projects of reducing temperature produced bygear-reducer of the ranging arm. The two projects can be referenced by engineer in the future.
