Adsorption resin is a synthetic polymeric adsorbent which is widely used in the adsorption and separation of organic compounds. Generally, the adsorption is relied on hydrophobic interaction, hydrogen bonding, π-π stacking etc. As an effective driving force between molecules, halogen bonding shows unique characteristics in molecular design. Therefore, there is a magnificent prospect in adsorptive separation via halogen bonding by introducing halogen bonding donors/acceptors into the skeleton of macroporous polymeric adsorbents. In this paper, a series of halogen-containing adsorption resins were synthesized and their adsorption properties were investigated.1. Poly(p-nitrostyrene)(PPNS) and Poly(p-aminostyrene)(PPAS) were prepared at first. Then the structures of the polymers were characterized by Fourier Transform infrared spectrometer(FT-IR) and BET surface analyzer. Adsorption behavior of bromobenzene onto the resins in cyclohexane solution was tested. And it shows that, the adsorption capacity of bromobenzene onto PPNS and PPAS are larger than PS resin. The adsorption capacity of bromobenzene onto PPNS was higher than that of PPAS. This may be due to the interactions of halogen bonding and π-π stacking. There is a bright future for the application of halogen-bonding in adsorption resin.2. Two different crosslinking degree types of bromide polystyrene resin(PS-Br) were synthesized. And their basic properties and pore structure were investigated. Adsorption behaviors of alkaloids(caffeine) and amino acids(L-phenylalanine) onto the resins in aqueous solution were tested. The application of adsorption resin containing halogen was discussed. The results show that both the adsorption quantity of the two types of PS-Br are higher than that of PS and the higher the crosslinking degree of the resin, the greater the adsorption quantity.3. Iodine generation of polystyrene resins(PS-I) were synthesized by using different methods and the basic property of the resin was investigated. Adsorption behaviors of N,N-dimethyl aniline onto the resins in cyclohexane solution were tested. The results show that PS-I and PS-Br have good adsorption performance for N,N-dimethyl aniline, the adsorption capacity is higher than before. And, under the same conditions, enthalpy of adsorption of PS-I is higher than that of PS-Br resin, the halogen … N bond plays an important role in the adsorption. Halogen-containing synthetic adsorbent resin has excellent adsorption properties.
