Blue belt steel as packing material for iron and steel product, single application field, but the demand is great. The traditional production process is that cold-rolled plates were uncoiled、cut、blued according to the needs of user requirements and national standard. People have been looking for other alternatives due to the complexity of cold rolling process, the cost is relatively high, and the process of dividing cause the finished edge’s defects such as burr、cracks. In this paper, deformation simulation and numerical analysis were carried out and the feasibility for hot-rolled thin diameter round steel as raw material to produce the blue belt steel was proposed by lead rod instead of round steel.Process of deformation for lead rod rolling by a ? 130 mm two-high rolling mill to simulate hot-rolled round steel rolling thin strip using Ф11mm lead bar instead of hot-rolled wire rod has been investigated. Single pass reduction experiments showed the change of spread was influenced by metal flow uniformity:as reduction ratio △h/H was less than 58.2%,rolled piece width was proportional to the reduction ratio, their relationship was b=12.92△h/H+8.95, as the reduction ratio exceeded 58.2%, the spread increased a little and the addition of rolled piece’s width can be ignored; when the Ф11mm lead rod was rolled to1.2mm by multi-channel deformation, the spread can increase 35.37% using the method of longitudinal rolling, also, the changing of spreading was small with the increasing of deformation; when angular rolling was adopted,with decreasing the entering angle, the spread increased obviously, the relationship between spreading and entering angles accord with b-??26.067.28?,and edge deformation was favorable; fixed into rolling, the width of rolled piece was linear growth as accumulation of the reduction in height, taking advantage of the thin diameter round steel rolling big width thin belt can be approved.Marc software was applied to established finite element model for simulating the rolling process of wire rod, analyzed the characteristics of metal deformation on the spread direction, and compared with the experiments used to grid method, both were in good agreement.
