With the development of industry level, more and more products are produced by using multi station progressive die stamping production line, but the design of the progressive die, especially the design of the layout, is still based on experience. Experience has become an important factor restricting the development of enterprises. In this paper, we study the ability of virtual simulation of computer to control the key process in the layout design process of special parts described in the article, verify the results of the design in a short time so as to improve the plan and replace the experience.First of all, this paper is based on a new layout method which make the punch work intermittently. Then the CAD modeling principle and the UG advanced development language are used to develop an application for three dimensional layout which takes into account the intermittent rule. It can observe intuitively the layout process in the new layout method. Moreover, the geometric simulation of the working procedure is studied in order to initially test the design defects.Secondly, due to the effect of the intermittent rule, the traditional pressure center calculation method has some limitations in the new layout method. Three methods are proposed to solve the pressure center of die under the new layout method. They are the traditional formula calculation method and the two calculation method considered intermittent law, namely the average position and the calculation method of the minimum moment. At the same time, the fast calculation program is developed to solve the punch pressure center in the cycle of a single stamping used in the average position calculation method and the minimum torque calculation method.Thirdly, this paper uses CAE to predict the results of the layout design in order to replace part of human experience. The prediction is divided into two parts: local feature stamping process and integral punching process to improve the efficiency. The paper analyses boundary warping phenomenon, the phenomenon of arc deformation, the feasibility of single forming, effect of fine positioning scheme on stamping quality, influence of die size on deformation of products and the effect of the new layout pattern on the production line and establishes the stamping production line model.The results achieved in the paper can be used to control the quality of the design in the design process in time and shorten design period that are three dimensional layout application, pressure center fast calculation algorithm and the method of predicting the result of the layout. The above methods can provide the design basis for the designers lacking of experience and make up for this defects, check the wrong in time to correct for the designers who are rich of experience, reduce design costs and improve production efficiency of enterprises.
