Pipe deck crane system of the offshore drilling platform is an important part of pipe automatic transfer system, Its main function is to realize the pipe automatic transfer between the horizontal pipe deck rack and pipe conveyor. Pipe deck crane system can improve the security and efficiency of pipe transfer operation significantly. The pipe deck crane system has been studied for many years abroad. The technology has been tended to mature and has been used widely. But the research of this technology is backward relatively and just beginning in domestic. So it is necessary to start the research of pipe deck crane system.The paper designed a pipe deck cantilever crane system to increase the drilling safety, speed up the drilling speed and reduce the labor intensity. The paper mainly completed the following several aspects:Firstly, analyzed the purpose and significance of this subject, discussed the developing situation of pipe transfer system, and analyzed three transfer system thoroughly, including knuckle boom crane transfer system、gantry crane transfer system and cantilever crane transfer system. Secondly, proposed two general schemes of the pipe deck cantilever crane system:horizontal cantilever crane system and Luffing-jib cantilever crane system, and chose the better one to do the detail design, then created the three-dimensional model with the aid of Solidworks. Thirdly, the paper completed mechanical analysis about mechanisms, also completed kinematics simulation analysis with the help of ADAMS. Subsequently, checked key parts’ structural strength using the finite element analysis software ANSYS. Finally, designed the hydraulic system, designed and chose the main hydraulic components.
