Objective:This paper was aim to provide reference for using Mammotome technology and reducing local recurrence in patients with breast cancer by discussing the clinical characteristics ofpatients with breast cancer, whose lesions were resected by Mammotome minimally invasive biopsy system early.Materials and Methods:Retrospective data from January 2004 to October 2014 were analysed on the clinical characteristics and median progression-free survival time of 263 patients with breast cancer. And they were treated by Mammotome minimally invasive biopsy system in at Guangxi Tumor Hospital. Results:There were 257 patients underwent radical resection in all(257/263). According to the final pathological margin status,257 patients were divided into two groups:negative margin (n=49,18.99%) and positive (n=206,81.01%). And they were also divided into four groups based on the diameter of lesions:group1(≤1.5cm,n=41), group 2(> 1.5cm and≤2.5cm,n=70), group 3(>2.5cm and≤3cm,n=46) and group 4 (>3cm,n=100).Their ratio of negative margin were 51.2%(21/41),25.7%(18/70),6.5%(3/46),7%(7/100). The results possessed statistical significance because negative ratio of four groups were complete different. With pairwise comparison in four groups, the result indicated that there were statistically significant difference except that between the group3 and the group4 (P=0.915). Significant differences were found between the groups with respect to vascular thrombosis (P=0.0014) and lymph node metastasis (P=0.000). Survival graph showedthat curves cross between positive and negative margin group. So there was not a significant difference between the progression-free survival of the group with positive margin and the group with negative margin, but the radical resection group and non-radical resection group. There was also not a significant difference between the two groups (chemotherapy vs. non-chemotherapy, radiation vs. non-radiation,and the interval time for more thanor equal to 14 days vs. less than 14 days and more than 7daysvs. less than or equal to 7days). Univariate survival analysis showed that 4 factors were prognostic factors of patients treated with Mammotome system, such as the diameter of lesions (P=0.000), lymph node metastasis (P=0.002), vascular invasion (P=0.004) and Human epidermalgrowth factor receptor-2(P=0.000).But Cox proportional hazards model showed that the lymph node metastasize and HER-2 might be independent risk factors affecting the prognosis.Conclusion:1.The result indicated that patients with≤1.5cmin diameter of lesion had the highest ratio of negative margin, but the ratio was greater less than that of breast-conserving therapy.2.If second surgery were done, there was no significant difference between the PFS ofthe positive margin group and negative margin group with the treatment of Mammotome.3.Positive margin might not indication for Mammotome therapy requiring chemotherapy or radiotherapy.4. The lymph node metastasizes and HER-2 might be independent risk factors affecting the prognosis, not the positive margin.
