Objective:Probing into the effect of moxibustion on treating urinary incontinence(UI) after stroke is to searching for a simple, convenient, inexpensive and effective TCM nursing method for UI patients after stroke in community and family. Methods:The research discussed the clinical treatment effect on treating UI after stroke.60 male patients were randomly divided into a treatment group(n=30) and a control group(n=30).The control group accepted regular medical and nursing therapy, including selecting appropriate care appliance, skin care, psychological care, bladder function training, pelvic floor muscles training and health education. Besides all the measures adopted in control group, the treatment group were given moxibustion therapy by using these acupoints:Shenque,Qihai(RN6),Guanyuan(RN4),Zhongji(RN3), Zusanli(ST36),treated 10 minutes each time, once everyday,10 days for a period of treatment, a total of three courses. Before and after intervention, voiding diaries, incontinence severity, incontinence clinical symptom score, curative effect, urinary tract infection number and the quality of life were used to evaluate the moxibustion intervention comprehensively.Results:1. After intervention, the mean frequency of micturition, urination volume of each time and the mean frequency of incontinence had statistical significance compared with each other (P<0.05);and all the data mentioned above had statistical significance compared with thosebefore intervention in each group (P<0.01).2. After intervention, incontinence severity in two groups showed great difference (P<0.01), and incontinence severity had great difference compared with those before intervention (P<0.01).3. After intervention, incontinence clinical symptom scores (except fecal incontinence) and total score in two groups showed great difference (P<0.01 or P<0.05);and the incontinence severity had statistical significance compared with those before intervention (P<0.01 or P<0.05).4. Eight cases were cured, twelve cases had noticeable effects, five cases improved and four cases had no effects, and the total effective rate was 86.21% in treatment group; while in control group, three cases were cured, six cases had noticeable effects, thirteen cases improved and eight cases had no effects, the total effective rate was 73.33%.The effective rate of the treatment group was superior to the control group with significant differences (P<0.01).5. There was one case suffered from urinary tract infection in the treatment group, while six cases happened in the control group. There was no difference between the two groups of urinary tract infection number (P>0.05).6. After intervention, the quality of life had statistical significance (P<0.05), and the quality of life had statistical significance compared with those before intervention (P<0.01).Conclusions:Moxibustion could relieve the symptoms of UI patients after stroke, such as frequent micturition, urgency of urination, incontinence, and so on. This effect of nursing had improved, and the life quality of the patients were elevated as well. Moxibustion was effective safe without side effects and it was also an easy-operated therapy for UI after stroke, which was worthy to be applied in community and family.
