Dapi Mountain locates on the east of Xun County which is the historical and cultural city in Henan province.Hence it is also called East Mountain. It is famous of the earliest stone Buddha in China and the stone Buddha is also the biggest one in North China. The stone Buddha was built in the Northern Wei Dynasty, and it is known as "a Buddha of twenty four meters high with a storied building of twenty one meters high".Dapi Mountain, also known as Lishan Mountain, is very towering and beautiful. Both Buddhism and Taoism coexist there, so we can see both Buddhist temples and Taoist abbeys spread all over there either. Dapi Mountain contains a large plenty of cliff inscriptions and has been famous from ancient times. From generation to generation, emperors, ministers and the literati climbed this mountain to enjoy the beautiful scenery. Dapi Mountain has formed a unique natural landscape and cultural landscape.Dapi Mountain contains A large number of cliff inscriptions, and now the existing number is more than460. Among these cliff inscriptions we can find all kinds of calligraphy script with highly historical, literary and artistic value. This thesis intends to analyze the cliff inscriptions in every dynasty from the perspective of the history of calligraphy writing style. And then to clear the rules of calligraphy style changing and development by means of clearing and comparing these inscriptions calligraphy style. Through the specific analysis of the inscription works, this thesis explores the calligraphy value of cliff inscriptions in Dapi Mountain and summarize the core rules of art to provide reference to calligraphy writing and exhibiting in modern society.This thesis is divided into three parts:The first part describes the overview and the research status of Dapi Mountain and the calligraphy cliff inscriptions. And then defines the writing background, study range and research methods.The second part discusses the calligraphy development of Dapi Mountain in time order. Combined with the calligraphy history this part analyzes some specific works and explores its successful model.The third part analyzes the inscription culture of Dapi Mountain, then research the change from writing calligraphy to inscription calligraphy by means of bid calligraphy works in Ming and Qing Dynasty. This part also explores the rules of writing huge calligraphy works and looking forward to applying these rules to daily use.
