On Grammaticalization Of "Zai" And Lexicalization Of "Verb+Zai"

There are lots of structure likes "V+zai+NP" in Chinese language, based on the former research we study "V" and "NP" in detail. This thesis mainly analyzes the lexicalization degree of "Monosyllabic verb+ zal" and "Disyllabic verb+zai" in modern Chinese language.This thesis is comprised of five parts.Foreword part describes the origin and meaning, the related research review about the structure of "V+P+NP" and the lexicalization of "V+P", the method and corpus.The second part studies the structure from the diachronic plane. Firstly, we illustrate the part of speech of "zal" in Chinese language. You know, prepositions usually come from verbs, the preposition "zai" comes from the verb "zal", so we need to describe the normal progress of the Grammaticalization of Verbs. Then we study the structure "V+za 1+NP", including the evolution of the format. At last, we study the semantic of the structure and the objects "NP".The third part analyzes the structure of "V+zal+NP" from the synchronic perspective. Firstly, we investigate how many monosyllabic verbs and disyllabic verbs can get into the format and study the syllabic features of disyllabic verbs. Then, we respectively describe the semantic of the verbs and the objects "NP". Finally, we begin to study the format and see what kinds of syntactic component it can serve as.The fourth part is about lexicalization of "V+zai". We attempt to use three methods to test the possibility of merging them into words. As follows:Looking from the existing dictionaries; Mutual information statistics; Questionnaire of sense of language.At last, this paper analyzes the motivation on lexicalization of "V+zai". The most important three reasons are the tendency of Chinese disyllables, the preposition incorporation and prosodic mechanisms.The fifth part is epilogue. It points out the conclusions of this paper and the deficiencies in the research process.
