The paper is the investigation of C hinese dialect of Xingwen county, in Yibin city of Sichuan province, in which we called Xingwen dialect. Xingwen dialect belongs to southwest mandarin of C hinese mandarin dialect. In previous studies, Xingwen is in entering tone area of southwest mandarin(southwest mandarin-Guanchi area- Minjiang river area). But based on our field work, it is not accurate and rigorous enough putting Xingwen dialect in the entering tone area simply. Because according to the entering tone, Xingwen dialect can be divided into two areas, Xingwenese and Erquese. In the paper, it not only provides new data for the study of Xingwen dialect, but also is helpful to investigate and solve the problem of essential characteristics of the Xingwen dialect by describing the characteristics of Xingwen dialect sound system, Dividing dialect partition, comparing the phonetic system with those of Guang Yun and looking for the rules of p honetic changes through survey, comparison and description.The paper contains five chapters. C hapter one is the background of Xingwen dialect, to introduce the general situatio ns of Xingwen, the research summary of Xingwen dialect, the materials and the method of the survey and the information of pronunciation partners. It describes the phonetic systems of Xingwen dialect from three aspects including the initials, finals and tones in chapter two and chapter three. In addition, it elaborates the laws of phonology, comparing Xingwen dialect with the Guangyun phonetic system to reveal the evolution and development of Xingwen dialect. Chapter four focuses on the comparisons between the Xingwenese and Erquese, and summarizes the characteristics of phonetic system. C hapter five is the conclusion of the full text, analysising innovation of the paper and identifying the deficiencies and improvements needed.
