The Study Of Metaphor In Wuhan Dialect

As an ancient and dynamic figure of speech,Metaphor has been fully excavated and explored so far. At the same time, Wuhan dialect, one branch of southwestern mandarin, also caused the substantial attentions of scholars. However, few people carry on the study of metaphor by associating with the language facts of the Wuhan dialect. Therefore, this dissertation is intending to take researches on the metaphor phenomenon in Wuhan dialect, according to the data collecting from the Wuhan dialect comedy, novels, news. The abundant language facts that will be analysied consist of words, idioms, proverbs and statements.There are five parts of the dissertation.The first Chapter is the introduction that gave a simple introduction of the city,the dialect, related researches, the study object, the research objective and the source of corpus.In the second chapter,an analysis of the relationship between Wuhan dialect vocabulary and metaphor is shown. The whole chapter is divided into three sections: In the first section, according to the Wuhan dialect Dictionary,the figurative words in this dictionary are divided into two categories: full-metaphor and semi-metaphor. And the semi-metaphor is further subdivided into two parts: the pre-metaphor and the post-metaphor. On this basis, this section mainly discusses the study of the figurative word building, especially the combination of metonymy and metaphor. By contrasting the metaphorical meanings of the words in the Wuhan dialect Dictionary and Modern Chinese Dictionary, the second section puts forward that it is difficult to distinguish between metaphorical meanings of words and metaphor strictly; At last, the section third analyzes the application situation of two-part allegorical sayings and idiomatic phrases in dialect.The third chapter summarizes and studies four elements of metaphor(tenor, vehicle, similarities, and the type of connection way) in Wuhan dialect. This chapter is divided into four sections: the first section discusses the types of tenor; the second section analyzes the type of vehicle and the phenomenon of analogy; the third section explores similarities and emphatically analyzes aesthetic metaphor phenomenon by sensory association; the fourth section gives a thinking on lexical links and non-lexical links and its performance in Wuhan dialect.The fourth chapter discusses the the characteristics of the metaphor reflected from the culture. According to the use of metaphor, we could see the difference of Wuhan people's life.The fifth chapter summarizes the full text by reviewing previous contents of the dissertation, and points out the next research points.
