| This is a translation project report of Chapters One to Five of Best of Both Worlds Museums, Libraries, and Archives in a Digital Age. It is a book about the digital development of Smithsonian Institution, which is the world’s largest museum and research complex with 19 museums, 9 research centers, and affiliates around the world. The writer is G. Wayne Clough who was the former secretary of the Institution. This book belongs to social science genre. Chapter One of the book, as an introduction, discusses the current situation of the pervasive development of digitization. Chapter Two to Four deposits the function and influence of digitization. Chapter Five describes the changes and development of the Smithsonian. This report is divided into four parts: Part One is the introduction to the project, including its background, significance and structure. Part Two is the background of the original text, including the introduction to the author and the original text. Part Three, as the main part, expounds the theoretical basis, translation difficulties and solutions of the report. The translator has mainly used Newmark’s communicative translation strategy, trying to render the translated version readable and comprehensible. In the process of translating, the translator encountered such difficulties as specialized terms, long and difficult sentences and passive voice, and used relevant methods to solve them. Part Four sums up lessons to be gained, enlightenment and problems to be solved. |
