Curt Sachs is a musicologist of German.His writing the history of Musical Instruments which is one of the musical instruments and music classic foundational work,was first published in 1940 by the American Norton Company.It is the research and understanding of the world musical instruments.It is an important historical material for the research of the source,development and change of the music.But it has not officially published in domestic China and there is no Chinese translation.In view of this,this paper takes Sachs "musical history" of "Far East Instrument" as the research object,based on the translation of the original and finishing,to further explore the concept of music and academic research methods,Sachs discusses "history" about China musical instruments and part of the study of history of Chinese music and the significance.In this thesis,the author makes a study on the translation of the eastern part of musical instruments in the Far East(see Appendix I),and further discusses Sachs' research ideas and achievements and contributions in the history of musical instruments.The main contribution of the first chapter mainly discusses Sachs "musical history",including Germany and Berlin School of music academic philosophy,life and academic contributions of Sachs,"a book into musical history";the second chapter is the evaluation on the part of Chinese musical history book,carding and evaluation of Sachs on the part of the history of the Far East Instrument and find out the high perspicacity and shortcomings;the third chapter is the application and effect of comparative musicology concept in Sachs "history" in the musical instrument;the fourth chapter mainly analyzes the summary of the "musical history" on the Far East Instrument of the study,and points out the main value view,and the research of music history Chinese enlightenment.Sachs' history of musical instruments embodies the idea of the Berlin School of music in the early twentieth Century.After coming to the United States,Sachs' academic ideas have been further enriched and developed.We can clearly see that the history of musical instruments in the overall research ideas and content arrangements,the use of cultural circle theory.Due to the fact that Sachs studied the instruments of East Asia,the facts are limited,and they are lack of accurate understanding of many musical instruments.It should be noted that,at that time,Sachs such a book,first in the academic circles is epoch-making;secondly lack in the book,Sachs is not intentional.The reason why the far east part translation "instrument history",we mainly to investigate Sachs on China instruments history research,in addition to the wrong place,it is more important to discover him about the valuable instruments Chinese views,ideas and methods.When he examines every musical instrument,he tries to link the various cultural circles to explore its earliest origins and to make bold assumptions about the connection between China and America in the new era.The research idea of this open,connected to our China music history has important methodological implications,can be used to investigate some musical instruments of historical origin,spread and rheological problems,can even re evaluate the influence of human China music history.
