Emotional topic picture books can show the emotional state for children,help children understand the common emotional state,to guide children to express their emotions,and then adjust their emotions,enhance emotional ability.Story understanding refers to the understanding of the story book contains the theme of the story,plot and details of an act of information.Emotional topic picture books are widely used in children’s emotional competence teaching activities.Therefore,how to understand the emotional story by reading the emotional theme has the value of quantitative research.In this study Tobii X60 eye tracker was used.There are 99 children from a kindergarten in Hangzhou to participate in the experiment.To explore the development characteristics and eye movement characteristics of 3-6 year-old children reading emotional theme picture books,and to study the relationship between the eye movement characteristics and the story understanding.we obtained the following four main conclusions:(1)3-6 years old children’s recognition of cartoon face emotion picture is better than real face.Their abilities of four basic facial expression recognition development order: happy is best,the sad times,angry again,fear the worst,emotional labels ability rapid development in 4-5 years old age,after 5 years of age reached a steady level.(2)There are significant differences in the level of attention of different AOIs.The level of attention from high to low is: the main image area > other images area> emotional incentive area = background area.Children of different ages have different attention level on the main image area,4 years old<6 years old < 5 years old,the level of focus on the background area is just the opposite.(3)3-6 years old children’s story comprehension level is gradually developing along with the age growth.4 years old children’s story comprehension level is significantly lower than the 5 years old and the children of the age of 6,and the difference between the understanding of the story of the children aged between 5years old and the children of the age of 6 is not significant.The level of story(4)comprehension is mainly reflected in the Image of the characters,Plot episodes,Emotional reasons and Emotional results.(5)There is a significant correlation between the level of story comprehension and the eye movement characteristics of different AOIs.The difference in the degree of attention to emotional incentives area is an important factor in the different levels of children’s story comprehension.Based on the above findings,the suggestion are as follows:(1)This study uses the cartoon face as the emotional learning material is more effective than face reality,Therefore,the use of emotional topic picture books for children’s emotional teaching has its advantages.(2)When the children are reading emotional topic picture books,by asking questions related to emotional understanding of the story or guiding by intention To strengthen the children’s attention to the image of the characters,emotional incentives so as to promote children’s understanding of the content of the story.(3)During the daily reading or teaching,adequate reading time is a prerequisite for children to understand the story,especially for young ages,or who has low level of story comprehension.
