Design And Compilation Of Thematic Atlas Of Resources And Environment

As the most effective way to represent geographic space,maps are indispensable for the research of spatial things and the expression of research results.An atlas is a set of maps with a unified overall design,a complete ideological system,a logical sequence of systems,an internal structure of organic connections,and strict technical specifications.The thematic atlas,as an organic complex of thematic information,is a collection of knowledge of thematic elements or phenomena and their spatial connections.In recent years,people have paid more and more attention to the resources and environmental issues.The thematic atlas of resource and environment provides important reference value and effective scientific information service for solving the sustainable development of resources,environment and society economy.This article focuses on the design and compilation of the resource and environment thematic atlas.Based on the three modern classic cartography theories of map space cognition theory,map information transmission theory and map visual perception theory,the design and compilation of thematic atlas of resource and environment were carried out with the Atlas of Resources and Environment of Dingxi City as an example.The specific works of this article are as follows:(1)By collecting data on meteorology,land use,air quality,pollution emissions,economy,population,etc.,using conversion,correction,registration and other methods,solved the problem that map data,remote sensing data,and statistical data from different sources and different formats fit in the same software platform,and then classified and graded the data.(2)Combined with the characteristics of natural geography,socio-economic and humanistic features of Dingxi City,the article designed atlas content structure that conforms to the situation of Dingxi City and the theme of resources and environment,and specifically designed the expression of the map content according to the characteristics of each group;In accordance with Graphic visual variables and map visual perception theory,through a large number of sample map experiments,designed the basic specifications of the atlas and the map language such as colors,symbols and annotations.(3)Determined the operating software platform system,which use ArcGIS as the data processing platform,Adobe Illustrator as the map compilation platform,and MAPulisher as the data connection between the two;At the same time,the process of atlas compilation was improved.(4)In the end,the Dingxi City Resource and Environment Atlas divides the four map groups into the sequence map group,the resource and environment map group,the socio-economic map group,and the county and district detailed map group,which contains 46 map frames,of which there are 18 city-level maps and 28 county-level maps.The Atlas of Resources and Environment of Dingxi City designed and compiled in this paper scientifically expresses the content of resource and environment topics on the basis of satisfying the aesthetics of the map,and displays and conveys comprehensive and objective map topic information to users of the atlas.It has certain guidance and reference significance for the design and compilation of atlases of resources and environment in other regions.
