The economic status of the Yangtze River economic zone has become increasingly prominent in China.However,the outbreak of fog and haze in recent years means that it is urgent for the Yangtze River economic zone to improve the quality of the atmospheric environment and transform the extensive economic growth mode.Therefore,by studying the efficiency of air pollution emission,we dig out the reasons for the low economic efficiency of the air environment in this region to help to improve the coordination between the atmospheric environment and the economy.Based on the theory of energy efficiency,we established the evaluation index system of air pollution emission efficiency from 2006 to 2015 in the Yangtze River economic zone.Firstly,air pollution emission efficiency,its overall gap,potentiality for energy-saving and emission-reduction,and source of inefficiency in Yangtze River economic zone were researched by the SBM-Undesirable model and Theil index and index decomposition method.Secondly,atmospheric environmental total factor productivity(AETFP)in the zone was measured by Global Malmquist-Luenberger productivity index model,and AETFP was divided into technological progress index and technical efficiency change index to find out the weakness in the growth process of air pollution emission efficiency from the two dimensions.Finally,the influencing factors of air pollution emission efficiency in Yangtze River economic zone were examined by SYS-GMM model.The main conclusions of this paper are as follows:Firstly,from 2006 to 2015 5 the average efficiency of air pollution emission in the Yangtze River Economic Zone(the abbreviate is YREZ)was 0.59,which was still 40%improvement from the frontier;the efficiency of the downstream area was obviously higher than that of midstream and upstream areas,and the efficiency of the upstream was the lowest one.Secondly,energy-saving and emission-reduction potentiality of the YREZ were quite large,especially the emission of smoke and dust and SO2.Thirdly,from 2006 to 2015,regional difference and infra-regional difference alternately at intervals affected the overall differences in the YREZ.In recent years,the regional difference has become the major source of the overall gaps;and the infra-regional difference in the upstream area was bigger than that of midstream and downstream.Fourthly,from the decomposition point of view,the low air pollution emission efficiency in the YREZ of 2006-2015 was mainly caused by the low scale efficiency;however,pure technical efficiency has become the major factor affecting the overall technical efficiency recently.Fifth,in YREZ,technological progress played a leading role in the improvement of air pollution emission efficiency,but the improvement was quite weak.On the other hand,deterioration of technical efficiency has become the main factors restricting the growth of air pollution emission efficiency.Sixth,air pollution emission efficiency of the YREZ had a delayed effect,which meant previous period had a significant positive impact on the next period.What’s more,economic growth,the increasing of R&D investment and the proportion of the third industry,optimization of energy structure,and enhancement of opening helped improve the air pollution emission efficiency in TREZ;However,the increase of the proportion of pollutant discharge incomes to GDP had no obvious effect on the air pollution emission efficiency.
