Research purposesThe study aims to explore the psychological health status and psychological flexibility characteristics of senior high school students in China from the perspective of DFM,and further study the impact of ACT intervention on the mental health of senior high school students so as to better help them grow healthily.Research methodsSatisfaction with Life Scale(SWLS),Positive Affect Scale(PAS),General Health Questionnaire(GHQ-12),Acceptance and Action Questionnaire-2nd Edition(AAQ-II)and Cognitive Fusion Questionnaire-Fusion(CFQ-F)were distributed to high school sophomores in a middle school in Nanchang to investigate their mental health status and psychological flexibility characteristics.600 questionnaires were issued and 543 valid questionnaires were received.Subsequently,20 students were recruited and selected according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria as study subjects, randomly divided 10 subjects to intervention groups and 10 to control groups. The control group accepted ACT group intervention, and the control group accepted general routine treatment. Both groups completed SWLS,PAS,GHQ-12,AAQ-II,CFQ-F,and Depression Anxiety and Stress Scale(DASS-21)before and after the intervention for one week.Research result(1)According to DFM,the mental health status of those high school students were divided into 59.5% of flourish,10.9% of vulnerable,11.6% of symptomatic but Content and 18.0% of troubled.(2)The average score of AAQ-II for high school students was(19.96±8.43),and the average score of CFQ-F was(36.80±12.62).The psychological flexibility of high school students did not show statistically differences in gender, place of origin, and whether they were the only child(p>0.05).However,in the different learning subjects, the science students’ average score of AAQ-II(19.21±8.46)and CFQ-F(35.92±12.99)were higher to the liberal arts students’ average score of AAQ-II(21.85±8.07)and CFQ-F(39.02±11.38),and the difference was statistically significant(p<0.001).(3)High school students’ average score of AAQ-II was negatively moderate related to the subjective well-being T scores(r=-0.42,p<0.001),to SWLS(r=-0.38,p<0.001)and PAS(r=-0.35,p<0.001)and was moderately positive related to GHQ-12 score(r=0.54,p<0.001).High school students’ CFQ-F scores was negatively weak related to subjective well-being T scores(r=-0.37,p<0.001),SWLS(r=-0.32,p<0.001),and PAS(r=-0.33,p<0.001)and was positively moderate related to GHQ-12 scores(r=0.42,p<0.001).(4)One-way analysis of variance showed that AAQ-II scores [F(3,539)= 49.07,p<0.001] and CFQ-F scores [F(3,539)= 32.38,p<0.001]among students with four different mental states are different and the differences are statistically significant.(5)Regression analysis showed that AAQ(t=2.91,p=0.017)and CFQ-F(t=-2.55,p<0.05)were positive influencing factors of subjective well-being T score in the psychological experience, and the regression coefficients were-0.66 and-0.19,which can predict a total of 18% of the positive mental health;AAQ is the influencing factor of the negative psychological symptom GHQ score(t=14.78,p=0.000),and the regression coefficient is 0.15,which predicts 29% variation of negative mental health.(6)In the intervention group, all the symptomatic but content developed into the complete mental health and the troubled developed into the complete mental health and symptomatic but content after intervention. In the control group some symptomatic but content individuals worsened into the troubled and the troubled had no improvement.Research conclusion(1)The mental health status of high school students is not optimistic: about 30% of the students have detected certain psychological symptoms, about 20% of students’ subject well-being are too low,and they need psychological assistance.(2)Science students’ experiential avoidance and cognitive fusion is lower than that of liberal arts students,so their level of mental flexibility is higher.(3)The psychological flexibility of high school students in four different mental health states of flourish, vulnerable, symptomatic but content and troubled is different. The psychological flexibility of the flourish and vulnerable individuals are higher than the symptomatic but content and troubled individuals.(4)The psychological flexibility is more useful to eliminate symptoms than construct and develop positive psychological experience,in which the experiential avoidance of psychological flexibility has a greater impact on the mental health of high school students.(5)ACT group intervention can effectively improve the psychological flexibility and mental health of high school students: improve positive emotional experience, eliminate negative psychological symptoms, relieve anxiety, depression, stress and other negative emotions.
