The thesis is about the demonstrative system in Hepo dialect, which is rather sophisticated and worthy of analyzing. There are four groups of demonstratives in the dialect and they are:a)fundamental demonstratives li,kai, kun;b)synaeresis location demostratives lia?,ka?;c)synaeresis object demonstratives lia,ka;d)manner demonstratives an tet and degree demonstratives an.In this ethesis,we have thoroughly investigated the usage of each group and compared them with demonstratives in Mandarin as well as other Chinese dialects from both syntactic and semantic perspectives. On the other hand,by comparing the difference between these four groups of demonstratives,we have found out the tiny distinction of usage among several similar words.li,kai, kun and lia?,ka? can all be used as location demonstratives, but they differ in frequency and range of using. The latter two words lia?,ka? are derived from the the three frontiers. Also, the object demonstratives lia,ka are synaeresis form of li,kai, kun and the general classifier t?ak.When demonstrating objects,li,kai, kun and lia,ka show different syntactic forms. The reseach is a small but referential case of general typological study on demonstratives of human languages.
