This report is based on the English-Chinese translation project of Ethical Issues in Six Religious Traditions. The author excerpts the first and second section of this book.Based on George Steiner?s fourfold translation motion, this report makes attempts to explore the specific correlation between comprehension and expression on the part of translator during the process of translation. From the perspective of George Steiner?s fourfold translation motion theory, translation is usually fulfilled in the following four steps: translator?s trust, translator?s aggression, translator?s incorporation and translator?s compensation.First of all,the translator has to select the text and be sure that the text is worth translating.Secondly, translator?s aggression is an important step to prove the translator subjectivity in the procedure of translation. The translator invades the source text violently, extracts the meaning and bring it to the readers.Thirdly, translator?s incorporation means the translator must transfer the meaning, language style and cultures to readers according to his or her own understanding. Finally, translator?s compensation is the restitution for the translation version in order to find the balance between the source text and the translation version. This translation report is divided into five chapters. The first chapter is an introduction to the translation task.In the second chapter, the author presents how the translation is finished,i.e.the whole process from the preparation before translation to the collation after the completion of the translation. The third chapter is the theoretical ground of the report, which illustrates George Steiner?s Fourfold Translation Motion. In the fourth chapter, the author analyzes the typical examples to present how the translator realizes the aggression and incorporation during the whole translation process. Finally, the author summaries her experiences through translation practice and gives some suggestions for MTI students.
