The study of historical urban geography has always been closely related to the contemporary urban construction. In the past, most of the academic studies focused on the capital,high-level administrative and district offices, while the research on urban geography in the center of ruling county and county-level administrative districts was relatively weak. There has not been a special study on the urban geography of the ancient city of Huizhou in the historical period.Taking the historical evolution and spatial layout of the ancient city of Huizhou as the core, this paper attempts to show the full picture of the historical geography of the ancient city of Huizhou and describe the historical changes of the location of the city of Huizhou, the construction of the city wall, the form of the outer edge and the layout of the inner space of the city.Through the study of the various elements constituting the spatial layout of the ancient city of Huizhou, this paper restores the spatial distribution of the administrative, military, culture and education, walled markets in the city of Huizhou during the Sui,Tang,Song and Yuan dynasties, especially in Chunxi years of the Southern Song Dynasty and studies the location of the city nowadays. It also makes a systematic study on the spatial pattern and reasons of the city changing of Huizhou in this period. It is considered that the land use pattern of the city of Huizhou has the inheritance and stability whether it was the external shape or the internal spatial pattern from the 7th century to the 14 th century.Ruling county and county-level administrative center were the combination of central power and local power, government power and folk power. The two pairs of forces took this as the stage of games and shape the spatial pattern of the city ceaselessly.
