A Report On Translating Wang Meng’s Essays On Learning And Culture(Ⅰ)

The report is based on the translation of Wang Meng’s Essays on Learning and Culture.The translation consists of three parts.In Part 1,the writer states the dialectical relation between ideals and pragmatism according to China’s reality.In Part 2,he focuses on traditional Chinese culture and advocates the scholarization of writers with extensive thinking and good writing skills.In Part 3,he probes into the multiplicity of time in A Dream of Red Mansions.The report mainly analyzed the translation of culture-loaded words,Chinese four-character structures,and the conversion between Chinese and English based on the content,type and characteristics of the task and discussed how to convey the author’s thought properly and make the translation faithful,expressive,readable and understandable under the theoretical guidance of Text Typology.
