This thesis contains three parts: Source Text,Target Text and Translation Report. Our Renewable Future: Laying the Path for 100% Clean Energy(2016),written by Richard Heinberg and David Fridley, focuses on the existing problems in the development of energy and the trend of energy development in the future. In Chapter 3 and 4,the authors analyze the current situation of energy use in electricity and transportation sectors and predict the challenges that will be encountered in the future energy transition. In Chapter 10,they give suggestions on energy transition promotion from the perspective of individuals, families and communities. In view of the logical consistency of the three chapters, the translator selects the three chapters as his translation project. The source text, possessing the characteristics of scientific and technical text,is categorized as an informative text. The purpose of the source text is to convey energy information to readers so as to promote energy transition.Skopos theory requires translators to choose translation strategies according to the purpose of translation, emphasizing that the target text should reflect its communicative purposes and meet the expectations of target readers. In light of the applicability of Skopos theory to informative text, the translator adopts this theory to guide the translation practice. In the translation report, the translator first describes the translation practice, introduces Skopos theory and reviews relevant studies on the translation of informative text.In the main part of the report, the translator discusses the guidance of Skopos theory to the translator’s translation methods and techniques in this translation practice from the lexical and syntactic levels.
