Guided by George Steiner's Hermeneutic Theory, the translator selects Chapter Eight ofStudent Companion to George Orwellwritten by Mitzi M.Brunsdale as the source text of this translation project. The translator aims to analyze the translation text with the Hermeneutic Motion(trust, aggression, incorporation and restitution)put forward by George Steiner and researches the application of the Hermeneutic Motion in this translation practice. This translation project mainly contains five parts: project description, translation process, theoretical basis, case study and conclusion.Firstly, the translator studies theStudent Companion to George Orwelland theAnimal Farmto acknowledge the background information of the source text;Secondly, the translator divides the whole translation practice into three parts,namely,pre-translation,while-translation and post-translation,and describes them independently;Thirdly, the translator introduces the Hermeneutics Theory and main ideas of Steiner's Hermeneutic Theory which considers that the translation process includes four steps: one, trust is that the translator believes the feasibility of the translation and the translation text is meaningful;two, aggression happens when the translator adjusts the structure and expression of the source text;three, incorporation is that the translator adopts different translation strategies, like literal translation, free translation, addition and omission,to enrich the source text after the aggression;four, restitution can be interpreted that it is unavoidable for the translator to ignore the integrity and the readability of the translation text when the translation tries to balance the source text and translation text during the translation process. So the translator should do necessary restitution of the form and meaning of the translation text so as to make the translation text more accurate and attractive. Then, the translator selects cases from the translation project and studies them based on the George Steiner's Hermeneutic Theory.Analyzing how did the translator translate the source text into the translation text. Finally, the translator draws a conclusion that the translator's translation process get examined based on the George Steiner's Hermeneutic Theory, through analyzing the adaptability of the four steps to the critical literature, this translation project could be a reference for the research on different genre of translation in the future.
