At present,the demand for sophisticated equipment for high precision and complex micro structural parts is increasing.The need for specialize in micro-mills challenges the flexibility and accuracy of tool design.The following problems exist in the field of micro-milling cutter design: the design method for traditional milling cutter is no longer applicable because of scale difference.In addition,the tool design process is separated from the optimization process of cutter parameters.Aiming at the above problems,this research work studies the new design method of micro-milling cutter and develops the design system of it.The main outcomes of research work are as follows:(1)The parametric design method of micro-milling cutter based on expression and user program was adopted.In this thesis,based on UG/Open,the 3D model template of the micro-milling cutter was established and its geometric features are deconstructed.Through expression function,the geometric features of the cutter were connected in series,and then driven by program programming.The proposed 3D model consumed less time to design the cutting tool compared with the traditional method.(2)The geometric parameters of micro-milling cutter were optimized and milling experiments were carried out.Firstly,Abaqus software was used to establish a three-dimensional finite element simulation model for milling process.Then,the characteristic parameters of micro-milling cutter were optimized through the information of stress-strain distribution,cutting force and workpiece stress distribution.In addition,in this research work,face milling experiments were also conducted to ensure the reliability of the finite element model,through the comparison test of self-made micro-milling cutter and commercial micro-milling cutters to verify the effectiveness of parameter optimization.(3)Finally,the design system of micro-milling cutter was developed.Based on the UG secondary development platform,the system is driven by the processing needs,with the workpiece material,processing technology and other factors as the constraint conditions,through the tool geometric characteristics,the tool design parameters and cutting effect combined,and finally achieved the special tool design for the metal processing needs.
