A Report On The E-C Translation Of Adapting Agriculture To Climate Change:Preparing Australian Agriculture,Forestry And Fisheries For The Future(Chapters 12-13)

The report is based on the translation of excerpts of the book Adapting Agriculture to Climate Change:Preparing Australian Agriculture,Forestry and Fisheries for the Future.The authors,Chris Stokes and Mark Howden,are the senior research scientists and theme leaders with CSIRO’s Climate Adaptation National Research Flagship.The book concerns the impact of climate change on Australian Agriculture,forestry and fisheries with some related solutions.The translator selects Chapters 12-13 as the translation project for English-C hinese translation under the guidance of skopos theory.In general,these two chapters mainly discuss the impact of climate change on water resources,marine fisheries and aquaculture,and put forward a series of effective solutions.The translation report consists of the following four chapters:task description,process description,case analysis and summary.The first chapter briefly summarizes the background,introduction and significance of the translation task.The second chapter discusses the translation process,which includes pre-translation preparation for searching translation materials(related background knowledge,terminology and parallel texts),analyzing the stylistic features of the source text and introducing the theoretical foundation for translation;major difficulties in translating book title,technical and semi-technical vocabularies,long sentences and attributive clauses.The third chapter analyzes some typical cases based on the three principles of skopos theory,which involves translation methods and techniques,such as reference to bilingual parallel texts,natural-flow translation,inverted translation,division,preposition and postposition.In the last chapter,the translator summarizes the harvest and experience obtained from this translation practice and points out her insufficiencies.This translation report aims to explore the translation of agricultural science and technology texts,and introduces some practical methods to effectively cope with climate change.
