| This thesis is a reflective report on the E-C translation of the UN’s Standard on Public-Private Partnerships in Renewable Energy.United Nations documents are official,with solemn and rigorous style,serious and formal tone,and concise and vigorous expression.They are also characterized by the abundance of high-frequency vocabulary,fixed syntactical patterns and technical terminologies.They belong to informative texts with strong purpose,aiming at accurately and efficiently transmitting the information released by its official institutions.The translator,therefore,employed Skopos Theory as the translation guidance to have completed the task.There are five chapters in the thesis: Chapter one describes the background of the task,the linguistic features of the source text and the requirements of the entruster.Chapter two is about the translation process,including preparations,translating process,and proofreading and feedback.Chapter Three is Theoretical Framework,in which the Skopos Theory,the three rules and their application in the translation of UN documents are introduced.As the main body of this report,Chapter Four makes a detailed analysis on specific translation cases from levels of lexis,syntax and text.Those effective translation skills such as conversion,amplification,omission,division,inversion,cohension and coherence,etc.are expounded and discussed.The last Chapter is Conclusion.The guiding role of Skopos Theory on the translation task as well as the gains and lessons from the practice are summarized and emphasized in a thought-provoking way. |
