At present,China’s basic education is moving from the “knowledge-based” era to the“ key competency” era,which is a global development trend.Key competency originates from quality education,and it is also the upgrading and transcendence of quality education.The proposal of key competency will surely lead to all-round reforms in school education and subject teaching in theory and practice.Classroom as the main position of key competency fostering,the exploration of technology empowerment is particularly important.With the advancement of Internet of things,big data,artificial intelligence and other major strategic actions,the construction and application of smart classroom has gradually become the new direction and new normal of the development of education informatization in China.The construction of smart classroom which is the best way to achieve key competency,and the important performance of the implementation of key competency,and the important grasp to achieve classroom reform.How to use the smart classroom to cultivate students’ key competency which is of great significance.Due to the relatively backward teaching conditions,limited learning resources,single learning methods and other factors in the traditional classroom,there is a certain derailment in the cultivation of students’ subject key competency in the traditional classroom.Smart classroom teaching is a whole composed of multiple elements,and the choice of its teaching mode is affected by the subject,object,tools and other elements.Comparing the teaching activities of smart classrooms from the perspective of activity theory,it can be found that the constituent elements of smart classroom and activity theory can form a better mapping relationship.This paper introduces the activity theory into the research of smart classroom,re-examines the operation mechanism of smart classroom,systematically and comprehensively investigates the constituent elements of smart classroom teaching,and according to the characteristics of smart classroom,constructs the smart classroom teaching mode based on the activity theory,which applies it in middle school English class,so as to cultivate students’ English subject key competency.In this study,the author focuses on the following three aspects.Firstly,through studying and combing the literature,this paper summarizes the research status of smart classroom and English subject key competency,and defines its related concepts.Secondly,according to the problems found in the previous survey,and on the basis of combing the smart classroom teaching mode,combined with the practical teaching process structure of the smart classroom by Professor Liu Bangqi,smart classroom teaching mode oriented to the key competency of the English subject based on the activity theory is constructed.Thirdly,two lesson examples in the first eighth grade of the new target of the People’s Education Edition were selected as the teaching content for model application,and two rounds of teaching action research are carried out.After finding problems on the basis of the first round,improving and optimizing the lesson,it is applied to the second round of research again.The effectiveness of the teaching mode is verified by the platform learning data,questionnaire survey and student interviews.The experimental study are indicated that the smart classroom teaching mode based on activity theory can better achieve the cultivation of students’ key competency of English subject,which verifies the effectiveness and feasibility of this teaching mode.To a certain extent,it can be improved students’ language ability,thinking quality,cultural awareness and learning ability.This mode has certain application value,and can be provided reference for the later development and teaching application of smart classroom.
