| English reading plays a crucial role in English language acquisition.In the meanwhile,it influences students’ comprehensive level directly.Consequently,English reading is of significant importance for senior high school English teaching.However,there are many issues existing in English reading teaching in senior high schools,such as,the unitary teaching methods,outdated English reading textbooks,dull English reading materials.In order to enhance students’ English reading ability and improve teaching quality,traditional teaching methods should be adapted to senior high school English reading teaching.The theme-based teaching mode based on CBI originated in western countries in the late 1960 s and gained popularity later.The theme-based teaching mode mainly emphasizes that English teaching is no longer teaching vocabulary and grammar simply,but enables students to obtain information of relevant subjects by means of meaningful understanding of contents,so that students can acquire the second language in an original and authentic environment.Based on the reasons above,the author carries out an experimental study on students of the Second Senior High School in Huludao,Liaoning Province in 2020.Students in Class Five and Class Six of Grade One are selected as two research subjects.Class five is the control class and class six is the experimental class.The duration of experimental study is four months to investigate two questions: firstly,the effects of reading ability in the application of the theme-based teaching mode in senior high school English reading teaching.Secondly,the changes of students’ attitude after applying the theme-based teaching mode in senior high school English reading teaching.The author adopts the theme-based teaching mode in EC,while adopting traditional reading teaching mode in CC.After the four-month experiment,the author draws the following conclusions: The theme-based teaching mode can arouse students’ interest in English reading effectively,improve students’ attitude towards English reading and improve students’ reading ability in English reading tests.Although limitations exist in the study,this thesis is valuable for practice from a certain perspective. |
