| With the promulgation of The New Curriculum Standard for Senior High School(2020 edition)and the increase in the proportion of students’ English reading in the reform of the college entrance examination,reading has become increasingly prominent in English teaching.English teaching also pays more attention to the analysis and understanding of the text,as well as the correct grasp and thinking of the theme of the text.At present,most high school English reading teaching still has some problems,such as the single way of class,too much attention to the study of language knowledge,ignoring the cultivation of students’ interest in reading.In this teaching mode,teachers will neglect to guide students to understand the thematic meaning behind the text.Theme-based teaching mode creates novel and rich classroom activities for students around the theme,so that students can deeply understand the article by analyzing the theme,understanding the theme and thinking about the theme in order to achieve better learning results.The purpose of this study is to explore the following two research questions by applying theme-based teaching mode to senior high school English reading teaching :(1)What are the effects of theme-based teaching mode on senior high school students’ interest in English reading ?(2)What are the effects of theme-based teaching mode on senior high school students’ English reading achievement ?The researcher conducted two rounds of action research for three months.The subjects of this study are 46 students from Class 7,Grade 1,a senior high school in Shenyang.Based on data from the first round of action research,the researcher identified problems in this round of research,and conducted the second round of action research after adjusting the plan.The researcher collected the data of each round of action research through questionnaires,interviews and reading comprehension tests,and used SPSS 26.0 to analyze the reliability and validity of the data,paired sample T test and so on.At the same time,the researcher interviewed the students to investigate their interest in English reading before and after the implementation of theme-based teaching mode.Through the analysis of the data,the researcher draws the following conclusions : the theme-based teaching mode improves students’ interest in reading.In addition,it also has a significant effect on improving students’ reading comprehension achievement. |
