As environmental pollution and greenhouse effect on a global scale becomes more and more severe, many countries are turning their attention to clean energy represented by hydrogen energy in order to solve problems in transportation, energy and environmental protection.China has also continued to increase policy support and encourage related technological innovations. In this context, this translation practice report selects two articles from the book Fuel Cells and Hydrogen Energy published by Springer Publishing House. The full texts are 7000 words in total, which compare hydrogen energy with other alternative energy in detail and introduce the fundamentals of fuel cells. Both articles conform to the characteristics of scientific English, and their objectivity, accuracy, rigorous logic and indirectness of language expression all require higher quality for their translation. After doing many researches on related science and technological articles, the author decided to use Nida’s functional equivalence theory to guide this article, combining Nida’s translation theory with this translation practice. The translator also analyzed the main features of English for Science and Technology.Typical examples were chosen to achieve lexical, syntactic and textual equivalence. The translator studied the translation of technical terms and abbreviations.Other than that, the translator adopted some translation strategies like conversion of syntactic order and division and approached textual equivalence from cohesion and coherence. This translation practice report is divided into five parts, namely the introduction of the translation task, translation process, and overview of functional equivalence, case study and conclusion. The translator found Nida’s functional equivalence can guide and adapt to EST texts very well.Through the combination of theory and practice, the translator hopes that this translation practice report can help readers have a further understanding of hydrogen energy. And through exploring the translation strategies used in scientific and technological texts under the guidance of functional equivalence, the translator hopes this can provide reference for further study.
