| This practical report is about the Chinese translation of Niagara Falls,Canada,Visitor Guide,which belongs to the text of tourism.This paper introduces Niagara Falls in detail,including scenery,famous scenic spots,local food,accommodation,amusement facilities alike.According to the analysis of Katarina Rice’s text typology,Tourism text has expressive function,vocative function and informative function,and the vocative function is dominant.Under the guidance of Newmark’s semantic and communicative translation theory,the author classifies the original text according to these three functions to produce an ideal translation that is faithful to the original text,conforms to the reading habits of target language readers,and can meet the needs of clients.In while-translation process,for texts with expressive functions,such as special food names and poems,the translator mainly uses literal translation.For texts with vocative function,such as advertisements,landscape descriptions and subtitles,the translator mainly uses the free translation.For texts with informative functions,such as passive sentences,long sentences and scenic spot maps,the translator mainly uses the translation methods of addition,omission and division.The practice report consists of four parts.The first part is the description of translation task,including the introduction of original text,client requirement and significance of the task.The second part is the description of the translation process,including the preparation of translation tools in the process of pre-translation,the selection of relevant theories,the time arrangement and emergency plan in the while-translation process,as well as the proofreading and client feedback in post-translation process.The third part,case analysis,which is also the core part of the whole practice paper,mainly includes the difficulties and solutions encountered by the translator in the while-translation process.The translator analyzes it according to the classification of different text types.The fourth part summarizes the translation task,including the main findings of the translator,the reflection on the shortcomings of the translation task and the prospect of future translation work. |
