As the process of urbanization continues to spread across China,so has occurrences of demolition and resettlement of residents for the purpose of land development.Rural towns and villages are now the new frontier of land development projects,of which by-products include displaced households,land-lost farmers, and communities for the dedicated purpose of resettlement. In order to study the impact of different types of community spatial structures on neighborhood relations, this study uses a combination of analytical perspective in spatial sociology, interview methodologies, comparative analysis and location analysis to explore the neighborhood relations in the resettlement process of township G in S village.Firstly, via in-depth field research, interviews were conducted with the villagers, gathering background information about the resettlement of the village, including related policies, relocation of households, and general situation of the community after the resettlement.Secondly,by exploring the characteristics of living spaces in different community spatial structures, this paper compares and analyzes the evolution of neighborhood relations before and after the resettlement and describes and analyzes the impact of the transformation of living spaces on the interaction and development of neighborhood relations.Using the theory of ternary space dialectical analysis, this paper then analyzes the positive and negative effects of spatial transformation on neighboring relations. Finally, the research demonstrates that national policy is the key to changing the spatial structure of rural neighborhoods. It not only breaks the traditional occupational structure of villagers, but also promotes changes in the structure of rural social strata. At the same time, the advancements of science and technology is expanding sphere of communication of neighborhoods, while reducing the trust and frequency of communication between neighbors, creating a trend of involution of neighborhood interactions. When traditional rural communities are relocated into urban apartment buildings, the interactions bundled with daily rural labor activities are all but removed, increasing the need for abundance of symbolic space in order to achieve satisfaction. Therefore, the design of the residential space structure should emphasize the reconstruction of symbolic space, provide practical space for the development of symbolic space, and enable the neighborhood to obtain a new sense of satisfaction and belonging through the reproduction of different spaces.
