| Since the reform and opening up,China’s tourism industry has developed rapidly, creating huge economic and social value. However, serious carbon emissions pollution, low resource utilization efficiency, and insufficient development momentum have also restricted the development of the tourism industry.Traditionally tourism development model which is relying on scale, resources, and elements has been difficult to cope with the complex changes in the current domestic and foreign situations.Facing the realistic requirements for high-quality and sustainable development of the tourism industry, technological innovation is the first driving force, and an important support for achieving high-quality and sustainable development of the tourism industry.Tourism eco-efficiency incorporates energy consumption and environmental costs into the evaluation framework of tourism efficiency, including economic, social and ecological factors, and is an effective measure of the high-quality and sustainable development of the tourism industry.Taking the provinces of China from 2001 to 2017 as the research object, except Hong Kong,Macao,Taiwan and Tibet.Based on the bottom-up estimation of energy consumption and carbon emissions in the tourism industry, using Super-SBM model measures the eco-efficiency of inter-provincial tourism.Combining the exploratory spatial data analysis model(ESDA)to test the spatial correlation between technological innovation and tourism eco-efficiency,reveal the spatial agglomeration characteristics between the two,and finally use the spatial Dubin model(SDM)to empirically study the impact of technological innovation on tourism eco-efficiency Direct effects and indirect effects, and regress the samples to explore the characteristics of regional heterogeneity. The main research conclusions are as follows:1)The average annual growth rate of energy consumption and carbon emissions in China’s tourism industry from 2001 to 2017 far exceeds the world average. The tourism transportation sector accounts for the largest proportion, other tourism activity sectors have the fastest growth, tourism accommodation sectors has shown a negative growth.2)China’s tourism eco-efficiency has generally shown an upward trend. From 2016 to 2017,technical efficiency surpassed scale efficiency and became the main factor driving the improvement of tourism eco-efficiency;in terms of space, tourism eco-efficiency showed a significant and continuously increasing trend.Spatial autocorrelation, homogeneity and polarization trends coexist. The high-value areas are concentrated in the Central Plains and Yangtze River Basin, and the low-value areas are concentrated in the northwestern Qinghai-Tibet area. The development of the tourism industry presents the Matthew effect.3)Scientific and technological innovation has a positive role in promoting the high-quality and sustainable development of tourism in the local and neighboring regions. It is a realistic and feasible development method to promote high-quality and sustainable development of the tourism industry through technological innovation.4)The impact of technological innovation on the development of the tourism industry is of regional heterogeneity. The penetration of technological innovation into the tourism industry in Northeast China has failed to solve the historical debt problems and new problems caused by the extensive growth of tourism. In the Yangtze River Delta region, the Central Plains, and the northwestern Qinghai-Tibet region, the direct and indirect effects of technological innovation on the high-quality and sustainable development of the tourism industry are both positive. The direct effect of the middle and upper reaches of the Yangtze River is positive, and the indirect effect is Negative, provinces are competing fiercely for high-quality elements of scientific and technological innovation;South China has the highest proportion of indirect effects in the total effect, mainly due to the long-term development of based on Guangzhou’s “diffusion effect”.Finally, based on the research conclusions, targeted policy recommendations are put forward. |
