PurposeWe investigated the current situation of second victim experience and support,psychological capital,career success,and professional identity of operating room nurses,to explore the influence of second victim experience and support,psychological capital,and career success on professional identity of operating room nurses,and to provide a theoretical basis for managers to improve the professional identity of second victims of operating room nurses,in order to guarantee the construction of nursing human resources in operating rooms.MethodsA convenience sampling method was used to survey operating room nurses by a combination of paper-based questionnaires and questionnaire star electronic questionnaires at Qilu Hospital of Shandong University,Shandong Provincial Hospital,Shandong Provincial Qianfoshan Hospital,The Second of Jining People’s Hospital,Liaocheng People’s Hospital,Linyi Maternal and Child Health Hospital,Yucheng People’s Hospital in Dezhou City,and Yiyuan County People’s Hospital in Zibo City from October 2021 to January 2022.The number of questionnaires returned was 569,and the number of valid questionnaires was 551.334 cases who had experienced adverse events were included as study subjects.The questionnaires included the General Information Questionnaire,the Second Victim Experience and Support Scale,the Psychological Capital Scale,the Career Success Scale and the Nurses’ Professional Identity Scale.SPSS26.0 software and AMOS24.0 software were used for data processing and statistical analysis.Count data were described by frequencies and percentages,and measurement data were described by means ± standard deviations;t-test or one-way AN OVA was used to compare the differences between general data on second victim experience and support,psychological capital,career success,and professional identity;Pearson correlation analysis was used to analyze the correlation of the four variables;multivariate stratified stepwise regression was used to explore the influence of the first three variables on professional identity;AMOS24.0 software to develop a structural equation hypothesis model to verify the mediating role of psychological capital and career success in the effect of second victim experience and support on professional identity,and to analyze the path of influence.Results1.The total score of the second victim experience and support support of the operating room nurses was(75.74±18.74),and the mean score of the entries was(3.15±0.78);among the distress latitude,the mean score of the entries of the psychological distress latitude was the highest(3.89±0.82);among the support latitude,the mean score of the entries of the family and friends support dimension was the highest(2.90 ± 1.06)and the mean score of the entries of the colleague support dimension The lowest score was(2.83±1.00).The total score of psychological capital was(70.63±27.46)and the mean score of the entries was(3.53 ±1.37);the highest mean score was(3.57±1.40)for the entries of self-efficacy and the lowest mean score was(3.49±1.45)for the entries of optimism latitude.The total score of career success was(32.72±10.61)with a mean score of(2.97±0.96);the highest mean score of(3.10±1.06)was for career satisfaction.The total score of professional identity was(92.93 ±29.57)with a mean entry score of(3.10±0.99);the highest mean entry scores of(3.16±1.10)and(3.16 ± 1.04)for the latitude of professional self-reflection and professional social support;and the lowest mean entry score of(3.01±0.98)for the latitude of professional social skills.2.The second victim experience and support of the operating room nurses,psychological capital,career success and professional identity were found across gender,age,years of work,nature of employment,nature of hospital,mean monthly income,title,highest education,marital status,number of adverse events experienced,level and degree of responsibility for the most recent adverse event experienced,whether the family understood the adverse event,how the adverse event was handled,and hospital or department There were differences between the subgroups with or without support,which were statistically significant(P<0.05).3.The second victim experience and support of operating room nurses were negatively correlated with professional identity(r--0.832,P<0.01),psychological capital was positively correlated with professional identity(r=0.937,P<0.01),and professional success was positively correlated with professional identity(r=0935,P<0.01).4.The number of experienced adverse events(β=-1.014,P<0.05),level of responsibility(β=-0.804,P<0.05),and second victim experience and support(β=-0.135,P<0.01)were negative predictors of career identity;the psychological capital(β=0.534,P<0.001),and career success(β=1.231,P<0.001)were all positive predictors of career identity,explaining a total of 42.9%of the variance.5.Psychological capital mediated between the second victim experience and support and professional identity,and the mediating effect accounted for 31.9%of the total effect;career success mediated between second victim experience and support and professional identity,and the mediating effect accounted for 23.8%of the total effect;psychological capital and career success had a chain mediating effect between second victim experience and support and professional identity,and the mediating effect accounted for 31.5%of the total effect;the total indirect effect accounted for 87.2%of the total effect.Conclusion1.The level of second victim experience and support of operating room nurses is higher than the basic level in China;psychological capital,career success,and professional identity are in the middle level.2.There is a correlation between second victim experience and support,psychological capital,career success and professional identity.The higher the level of second victim experience and support of operating room nurses,the lower the level of professional identity;the higher the level of psychological capital,the higher the level of career success,the higher the level of professional identity.3.Number of adverse events experienced,level of responsibility,nature of the hospital,the second victim experience and support,psychological capital and career success of operating room nurses are the main influencing factors of professional identity.4.Second victim experience and support can not only directly influence professional identity,but also indirectly influence professional identity through psychological capital and career success,respectively;they can also indirectly influence professional identity through the chain mediating effect of psychological capital and career success. |
