| This translation practice report is based on excerpt from The University Revolution Outline of a Processual Theory of Modern Higher Education,an academic text written by Eric Lybeck.In the book,the author discusses issues of higher education,such as uneven distribution of educational resources,unequal access to education for men and women,and the emergence and development of cross-discipline,hoping to provide guidance to the future development of higher education.Based on existing study,the translator selects the Skopos theory as guidance to discuss practical approaches and techniques in academic translation.The main techniques used are addition,omission,conversion,annotation,sequence adjustment and combination.By applying these techniques to typical examples,the author then makes further analysis of the translation practice based on the theory.Due to the particularity of the features of academic text,the translator should apply translation techniques flexibly and ensure that the translation is both faithful to the source text and share a higher degree of fluency and readability.Only in this way can the translation purpose be achieved.This report consists of five chapters.Chapter one introduces the thesis background,the report structure and the features of original text.Chapter two relates to the pre-translation,during-translation and post-translation process.Chapter three describes the theoretical framework,including an overview of the Skopos theory and its application in academic translation.Chapter four elaborates on the usage of translation techniques at the lexical and syntactic level respectively.Chapter five concludes the report,in which the translator summarizes the gains and deficiencies of the translation practice.While benefiting a lot from this translation practice,the author hopes her translation practice and report will provide inspiration and reference to future academic translators. |
