A Report On Simulated Consecutive Interpreting For 2020 China·Beibu Gulf Marine Economy Development Forum

In August 2020,the China · Beibu Gulf Marine Economy Development Forum was held in Fangchenggang city.This forum adopted the model of online to offline communication with the themes of financial services along the border,port development,and new western land-sea corridor in the west.This thesis is a report on the practice of simulated Chinese-English consecutive interpreting based on the speeches of some speakers in this forum.It analyzes the typical cases from the perspective of the Interpretive Theory,as well as discusses and summarizes the interpreting methods and strategies adopted in practice.The report is composed of four aspects,including task description,task process,case analyses,and conclusion with a description of the background,feature and process of the interpreting task,highlighting the case analyses.In the case analyses,concerning the challenges that arise in the process of simulated consecutive interpreting,the interpreter discusses them from the perspectives of comprehension,de-verbalization and reformulation in the Interpretive Theory,reflects on the reasons for improper handling of the interpretation,analyzes the highlights of proper handling and summarizes the corresponding coping strategies and methods.According to the analysis,it is found that when dealing with run-on sentences,restructuring and simplification can be applied;when dealing with relevant expressions in marine economy,the methods of summarizing can be used;in the face of the information loss in the original language due to unexpected situations,the method of prediction can be reasonably applied.These strategies can improve the quality of interpretation,so as to more accurately and flexibly express the sense that speakers want to convey.In the concluding part,the interpreter makes self-reflections,emphasizing the importance of knowledge accumulation and language skills.This report will be useful for future study and work.
