With the rapid development of translation technology, the translation industry has new requirements for translators’ abilities. In addition to the necessary bilingual ability, translators should master basic translation techniques to complete translation tasks in a timely, efficient, and high-quality manner to meet market demand. The source text of this report is derived from the translation material provided by the internship company Sichuan Longhao General Aviation Group Co.Ltd.--Part 61 Manual of Standards(MOS)F2018C00657VOL03.Based on his translation practice, the author of this report records the problems encountered in the civil aviation field when he started translation practice.First, there is a lack of parallel corpus that can be directly used in translation practice.Second, inconsistent terminology translations are found in the manual translation.Third,it is time-consuming and laborious when the author uses unprocessed reference materials to verify relevant background knowledge, which results in extremely low translation efficiency and unable to meet the demand of the market.Accordingly, the author produces a translation memory based on translation practice materials to explore the problems he has encountered during the translation practice. This report summarizes the basic process of civil aviation manual translation memory production: quality assurance, formatting, text alignment, and memory production. The computer-aided translation tool SDL Trados Studio was used to load the translation memory, and the same source text was selected to test the memory in this report. It is found that the memory bank can be effectively used in the translation of manuals that need to be updated frequently in the field of civil aviation, which can reduce a lot of repetitive work and secures consistency between the translation of previous manual versions and the updated version in terms of style.Using the search function of the translation memory to check terminology can effectively ensure the consistency of terminology translation. At the same time, the translation memory can be used as pre-translation reference materials to help translators quickly understand relevant background knowledge. It is believed that students majoring in translation in the field of civil aviation should learn and master the necessary translation technologies, including but not limited to translation memory technology and terminology management technology at the beginning of their translation careers,so as to accumulate their language assets and improve translation efficiency and translation skills. This practice report is a summary and reflection of the author’s translation practice. It records the problems encountered by the author in the translation practice process at the beginning of his career as an MTI student as well as his thinking on the translation career, aiming to provide some references and inspiration for translators working on the civil aviation manual translation.
