The English Translation Of Core Political Concepts Based On The Bilingual Corpora Of Xi Jinping:the Governance Of China

The publications Xi Jinping: The Governance Of China are national-level political works with high-level and high-quality contents,attracting widespread attention from all over the world.The English translation strategies of core political concepts in the books are representative.Studying translations strategies of these core political concepts contributes to exploring translation strategies and skills of political texts and promoting translation quality,so as to disseminate China’s political ideas and concepts.Currently,most studies on the translation of core political concepts in the books are qualitative analysis,concentrating on a small-scale of text examples,lacking large-scale retrieval analysis utilizing corpora,and the results drawn are somewhat limited in their universality and representativeness.On the basis of applying eco-translatology,this thesis extracts core political concepts and explores the bilingual collocation networks and knowledge networks of specific core political concepts by using corpus tools,which fills the gap of lacking quantitative analysis to some extent.In addition,the translation process of the texts involves the management of language,culture,communication and other aspects,which is consistent with the research contents of eco-translatology.This theory is not limited to the text,but takes into account both the translator and the source and target texts,translation environment.The perspective is relatively new,and translation can be explored from a overall perspective.Therefore,it is of research value and innovative significance to apply corpus approaches to the translation of core political concepts in the corpora.Based on the foregoing,this study investigates the translation strategies of the core political concepts in the corpora,uses eco-translatology to analyze strategies from linguistic,cultural and communicative dimensions and employs the corpus tools to create bilingual knowledge networks of specific core political concepts with the intention of addressing the following three questions:(1)What are the core political concepts in Xi Jinping: the Governance Of China? What are the corresponding English translations?(2)From the perspective of eco-translatology,what are the common strategies for translating core political concepts into English?(3)From the perspective of eco-translatology,how are the correspondence and completeness of specific core political concepts knowledge networks in bilingual corpus?The research finds that:(1)The core political concepts in the text include“以人民为中心”,“人类命运共同体”,“中华民族伟大复兴”,“一带一路”,“生态文明”,“全面建成小康社会”,etc.,and the corresponding English translations are“people-centered”,“a community of shared future for mankind”,“the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation”,“Belt and Road Initiative”,“eco-civilization”,“complete the building of a moderately prosperous society in all respects”.Among them,the Chinese core political concept is not completely consistent with the English,and there are also cases where one Chinese concept corresponds to multiple translations.(2)The commonly used translation strategies are literal translation and free translation,and the translator will make adaption and selection during the translation process of core political concepts in different degrees at the linguistic,cultural,and communicative dimension to improve the quality of the translation.The core political concepts selected in this study occupy different proportions in the three dimensions,among which concepts belonging to the communicative dimension occupy the largest proportion.Moreover,translation strategies vary due to different dimension.(3)The correspondence and completeness of specific core political concepts knowledge networks are generally good,but there is still room for improvement.
