This paper relates to the systematic investigation on the theory and technology of pigmentation of vat pigment and the surface modification, microencapsulation of copper phthalocyanine blue (CuPc).Methods of leuco-oxidizing, solvent treating, ball milling and acid treating are used for pigmentation of Vat Blue RS . Effects of sand milling time, adding abietic acid and other surfactants during leuco-oxiding on hue , color strength, flowability and crystal form of pigment are studied. Effects of treating time, temperature, amount and properties of solvent during solvent treating on color strength, shade, hiding power , flowability and transformation into α —form from δ—form of pigment are studied by X-ray powder diffraction, measure of particle diameter and scanning electron microscope , and the reasonable conditions of pigmentation are found . A systematic study of properties and amount of solvents, type and amount of assistant grinding agents , ball milling time in method of ball milling are made, α —Form C.I Pigment Blue 60 of thermodynamic stable, brilliant reddish blue, higher color strength and hiding power can be prepared by ball milling. Methods of acid treating include acid milling, acid dissoving and acid permutoid, and the results from acid permutoid is better.Vat Yellow G is conditioned by solvent treating, acid dissolving, ball milling and leuco-oxidizing. The effects of amount and boiling point of solvent, temperature, time on the purity, transformation of crystal form, color strength, flowability of pigment during solvent treating have been investigated . The properties of pigment can be changed by temprature and time of treatment, amount of water, adding surfactant or treated with aromatic solvent after acid dissolving. By ball milling in aqueous medium in the presence of OS-15, the color strength is 10% higher than without treatment. C.I. Pigment Yellow 24 of new crystal modification is obtained by leuco-oxidizing , and the pigment has bright reddish yellow,lower flowability and higher color strength .Surface modification of CuPc with poly (ethylene glycol)s, sodium polyacrylate , methyl (carboxy methyl) cellulose and hydroxy alkyl acrylate terpolymer are studied. The dispersing extent in aqueous medium of modified CuPc is enhanced by steric hindrance stabilization and increase polarity of surface of pigment particle .
